Judy Kuhn, Beth Malone, Roberta Colindrez and Joel Perez will star in Fun Home, a new musical featuring a score by Jeanine Tesori and book and lyrics by Lisa Kron. The musical will kick off the season of the Public Theater's Lab. Directed by Sam Gold, Fun Home is based on Alison Bechdel's graphic novel and will run October 17 through November 4 at the Public's Shiva Theater.
Set in a funeral home, Fun Home follows Alison's (Malone) quest to come to terms with her father's life and death by painstakingly reconstructing their shared but unspoken bond. Kuhn will play Helen, while Perez takes on the role of Roy and Colindrez plays Joan.
Kuhn earned Tony nominations for She Loves Me, Chess and Les Miserables. Malone has appeared on Broawday in Ring of Fire and off-Broadway in The Marvelous Wonderettes and Bingo. Colindrez's stage credits include Grimm's Fairytales, Invisible and Before Death Comes for the Archbishop. Perez has toured nationally with In the Heights.
Fun Home will feature scenic and costume design by David Zinn, lighting design by Ben Stanton, sound design by Kai Harada, video design by Jim Findlay and Jeff Sugg, musical direction by Andy Einhorn and choreography by David Neumann.
The Public Lab aims to connect audiences and artists in the process of creating new theater. This season's Lab series will also feature Richard Nelson's Sorry and Dominique Morisseau's Detroit '67.
